Members of staff from commercial agents FHP

The Estates Gazette Interactive (EGi) awards have confirmed that, with 353 deals completed in 2017, Nottingham-based FHP is the Most Active Agent in the East Midlands.

The firm, which has also offices in Derby and London, topped the table in the retail and investment categories as well as scooping the top accolade for the most deals across the board in the prestigious property awards.

Founding director, David Hargreaves said: “The amount of work involved in putting together just one deal is massive, so 353 deals in a single year shows just how creative, focused and hardworking the FHP team is.

“These deals have generated approximately £20 million of annual rents with an end value of almost £300 million.”

Founding director, John Proctor added: “With offices across the East Midlands and London delivering a full range of agency services, FHP is a multi-disciplinary practice able to advise clients of all sizes across the retail, office, industrial, leisure and investment sectors.”

David continued: “With the well documented difficulties faced by high street retailers in the face of changing shopping patterns, the continuous march of the internet retailer and the government’s rating revaluation - which has seen occupational costs rise significantly - putting together 163 retail deals is amazing and has played a major part in ensuring our high streets and shopping centres are occupied.

“These were not easy deals and have been created thanks to our depth of knowledge, our contacts built up over the past 25 years and by regularly attending the various retail events and conferences such as the biannual ‘Completely Retail’ event in London and the shopping centre conference ‘Revo’.

“However, our most important skill is our ability to think ‘outside the box’ and being creative when negotiating terms.”

Deals completed included lettings and sales to the likes of national retailers: Aldi, Lidl, Holland & Barratt, Footlocker, Krispy Kreme, Timberland, Five Guys and The Botanist.

FHP also won the Most Active Investment Agent in the East Midlands with investment deals concluded across the board - from individual investors and property companies through to large pension funds and insurance companies such as East Point Retail Park, sold for more than £12 million.

FHP came second in terms of the number of office deals completed - but first in terms of size with 233,000 sq ft of offices let in 2017 in Nottingham alone - including the city’s largest office letting of 33,000 sq ft to Siemens.

The firm also came third in terms of the number of deals completed in the East Midlands, with 1.3 million sq ft of accommodation let or sold by the industrial team last year.

The EGi deals competition is designed to establish the agents completing the largest number of deals and has been running since 2001. It is an independent survey conducted by a research team which covers commercial transactions.
